Just like strategic planning is worthless without the foundation of a strategic vision, the most compelling vision and goals will fail to materialise unless they are guided by a systematic roadmap of how to achieve them.
For smaller projects such as your small business website for example, these roadmaps can often be kept quite basic and fluid, however for more complex digital projects within often large organisations detailed project planning is vital.
Digital Project/Programme Roadmap
For larger-scale digital projects such as website or intranet developments and roll-outs, I have experience of planning the whole programme, including project organisation design and all project stages and streams from requirements analysis, specification and user-experience design to content migration and production, development, testing, governance, and adoption and change management.
A real challenge for large websites/intranet sites, and often forgotten (at least underestimated) or neglected, content governance is all about putting systems, workflows and roles in place that support the long-term management of your content – its publication, quality, amount and growth.
